Mai Lan - Pumper
Interactive music video imagined, directed, edited, designed and developed with TOOSOON for the French artist Mai Lan in collaboration with PANAMÆRA.

TOOSOON graduation project
This project had been initiated as my collective TOOSOON graduation project for the interactive design and development master of Gobelins Paris.
The project kicked off after we reached to Mai Lan, proposing her to collaborate and to make an interactive music video together.

A music video you can play with
We crafted a unique experience combining live action, motion graphics and interactivity.
Pumper highlights the song’s sunny and dancing mood with a psychedelic visual universe that the user can manipulate and play with through fun and addictive interactions. The goal was to create a playful and intuitive experience that works seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Fun and surreal interactive music video
Mai Lan has a very surreal universe, so we agreed that the interactive music video would be a trippy adventure enlightened by a colorful and sweet pop art direction.
In order to be well understood, the interactions had to be very simple, and have a graphic purpose by allowing the users to play with the visuals.
First experience as video directors
PANAMÆRA gathered a small team and booked a Parisian studio for 2 days to let us get all the shots we needed.
We then made all the visuals compositions using stock images. The objective was to give birth to a visually rich universe matching the sweet and catchy mood of the song.
Merging video and real‑time effects
The interactive music video was built using a mix of psychedelic visuals, motion design and real‑time WebGL effects.
The challenge was to ensure smooth performances across devices while maintaining high visual fidelity. The experience was carefully designed so that interaction remains optional, viewers can either engage with the visuals or simply enjoy the video as a traditional music video.

Clique.tvMai Lan didn’t settle for a YouTube video for “Pumper”: she took psychedelia to the extreme in an interactive version of the clip.
You can, among other things, change the landscape, choose the prints, direct the artist’s binoculars and even cut cacti. And strange as it may seem, the experience quickly becomes addictive.
